Follicular unit extraction
FUE stands for follicular unit extraction, this refers to the method of hair transplant where the grafts are extracted individually with a micro punch. This small device means there is little to no scarring. Once we have extracted the individual hairs we then make incisions into the scalp. These incisions create channels where the grafts will be implanted. Forceps are then used to place the individual grafts into the incisions one by one. This procedure takes around five to eight hours, always completed in one day. FUE is the most common and modern method of hair transplantation. At Want Hair we specialise in being experts of FUE.

Sapphire blade technology
A sapphire blade is a specialised tool used in FUE hair transplants. We determine between a standard steel blade or a sapphire blade. The sapphire blade allows greater precision for the grafts to be placed closer together. This improves density and a more natural appearance for the implanted hair and allows for faster healing post transplant. Since the sapphire blade is smaller and less invasive, it decreases the amount of tissue damage. Sapphire is also non metallic so avoids the risk of allegic reaction. All of our surgeons at Want Hair are trained in the use of sapphire blades, resulting in high quality hair transplants.

Platelet rich plasma Therapy
PRP stands for platelet rich plasma, this involves taking an extraction of the patient’s blood which is spun in a centrifuge to separate the rich plasma from the rest of the blood. The rich plasma is then injected into the scalp of the patient. Platelets are a very important part of the blood that helps healing and oxygenation. The concentration of platelets and growth factors can be 10 times greater than usual. PRP can help with growth after surgery in both the transplanted area and the native hair to promote healthy growth. Boosting the rich platelets will stimulate the healing process, PRP is a great addition to any plan for better hair.

Direct hair implantation
DHI stands for direct hair implantation which is another method of hair transplantation. In a standard FUE surgery, each stage of extractions, incisions and implantations are made separately. With DHI the incisions and implantation in to the thinning and balding zones are done at the same time using a special device called a CHOI implanter pen. When the pen is used, the follicles are extracted and implanted simultaneously. This is often better suited to unshaved hair transplants and female pattern baldness. DHI has a similar recovery time to FUE, with results taking up to 12 to 18 months. A consultation will help determine which option would give you your desired results.
